Guide to Your Bill and Payments

After you enroll, your first bill will come from your health insurance company. Find out when your bill arrives, how to pay it and whom to contact for help.

How Your Billing Works

Your bill comes from your health insurance company, not Covered California. Here’s what to expect each month.

Your First Payment

You may be able to pay for your first month online once you enroll — look for Pay Now in your Covered California account. This option is only available for your first payment.

If you don't pay online, your insurance company will mail you a bill. Pay them (not Covered California) by the due date on the bill. You can also contact your insurance company to pay by phone.

Your plan won't start if you don't pay your first bill. Any care you get won't be covered, and you'll be responsible for the full cost.

Your Future Payments

After your first payment, your insurance company will send you a bill each month. It will tell you the due date, what you owe and how to pay — online, by phone or by mail.

Missed Payments

If you miss a payment, your plan could be canceled. To get insurance again, you may have to wait until the next open-enrollment period or until you have a qualifying life event. Pay your bill by the due date each month to stay covered.
