Update Your Information

When your situation changes during the year, you must report it. Updating your information may trigger a new eligibility check. A change can affect:

  • The plans available to you. If you move, your new area may offer different plans.
  • How much financial help you get. You may get more or less help. If you receive more than you qualify for, you may have to pay some or all of it back when you file your federal taxes.
  • Which program you qualify for. Your income determines which program you qualify for — Medi-Cal or Covered California.

What Changes to Report

  • Household: Marriage, divorce, birth, adoption, gaining or losing a dependent
  • Income: Any change in income, including starting or losing a job
  • Address: Moving to a new address
  • Other: Getting health insurance through a job, Medicare or Medi-Cal
  • Status: Change in disability status, tax-filing status, citizenship or immigration status, incarceration or release, or American Indian or Alaska Native tribal status
  • Identity: Corrections to your name, date of birth or Social Security number

When to Update Your Information

How long you have to update your information depends on which program you get health insurance through.

For Covered California: Sign in to your account and update it within 30 days of the change.

For Medi-Cal: Find your local county office and notify them within 10 days of the change.

Get Help From an Agent or Enroller

You don't have to apply on your own. A licensed insurance agent or a certified enrollment counselor, sometimes called an enroller, can help you apply for and enroll in a health plan for free.

When you add an enroller, you give them permission to see the information needed to check if you qualify and to enroll you in a plan.

Use our Find an Enroller tool to get free enrollment help near you.

Add an Enroller

You can add an enroller to your account in one of two ways:

To remove them later, let your enroller know you no longer need their help, or call us. You can cancel or limit their access in writing at any time.

Keep Your Personal Information Safe

A few simple habits can help:

  • When you enroll or manage your account online, check that you're on the official Covered California website (coveredca.com).
  • Only share your personal information with people you know and trust.
  • If someone offers to help you enroll, make sure they've been certified by Covered California.
