Quality Health Insurance for Your Small Business

Covered California for Small Business (CCSB) is a marketplace that helps small businesses offer their employees health and dental insurance plans. Free expert help is available, and qualifying businesses may be eligible for cost-reducing tax credits.

What You Can Do With CCSB

Employers get flexibility and control over how they offer health and dental insurance to their teams.

  • Choose What to Offer

Select the coverage levels — Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum — that you want to make available to your employees. You can offer anywhere from one tier to all four, and add dental insurance as an option.

  • Control Your Costs

You decide how much to contribute toward employee premiums. Receive one monthly bill for all your coverage, making it easier to manage and budget for health benefits.

  • Let Employees Choose Their Plans

Employees pick the plans that work best for their needs and budget from the options you offer. Enrollment is year-round, so adding or removing employees is easy.

Not the right fit? We can still help.

If you're self-employed with no W-2 employees, individual insurance through Covered California may be a better option — and you could qualify for financial help to lower your monthly premium.

What to Know Before You Enroll

Most employers start with two questions: Does my business qualify, and can I get help with costs?

Tax Credits May Lower Your Costs

Some small businesses that offer insurance through CCSB qualify for a federal tax credit worth up to 50 percent of their premium contributions — available only through Covered California for Small Business. The credit is based on your business size, average employee wages and how much you contribute toward premiums. Not all businesses qualify — eligibility is determined by the IRS.

If Your Business Has 50 or More Employees

Businesses with 50 or more full-time-equivalent employees may be required by law to offer health insurance that meets federal standards or face a payment to the IRS. CCSB can help applicable employers meet this requirement. If your business has fewer than 50 employees, you are generally not required to offer insurance.
