Losing Medi-Cal Coverage

Even if you got a notice that your Medi-Cal is ending, you may still have health insurance options. Covered California can help you get a health plan and avoid a gap in coverage, but you must act as soon as possible.

Your Medi-Cal Is Ending

You received this notice because you or someone in your household is no longer eligible for Medi-Cal. California law requires us to enroll you in a new plan through Covered California.

Whether a plan was selected for you depends on whether you qualify for financial help. If you do, we picked the plan that offered you the most financial help — but you don't have to keep it.

Your notice includes your access code, case number and deadline. It will also tell you whether a plan has already been selected for you and how much financial help you may qualify for.

You have one month from the date your Medi-Cal ends to select a plan without a coverage gap. You can still enroll for up to 90 days, but waiting may leave you without insurance. Sign in to your account to keep, change or cancel your plan.

If you think you received the notice by mistake, find your local Medi-Cal office on DHCS.ca.gov.

Why Medi-Cal Eligibility Can Change

Medi-Cal eligibility is based on your household size and income. If either of these changed, you may no longer qualify.

You can get health insurance through Covered California — usually with financial help to lower your monthly costs. Medi-Cal and Covered California are both part of the same system and moving between them is normal.
